One of the articles mentioned that sometimes it is possible to engineer courses from the existing course bank. They have some articles about creating courses, course length, evolution of course materials, being able to offer multiple translations of sentences, their on-going improvements, their prioritization of improvements, and which countries are learning which languages. The first step is to read Duolingo’s blog.

That’s where the Catalán application comes in!Ĭhart of the Duolingo Incubator as of Friday. Therefore, proposal for new courses will theoretically be read soon. Several of them have upcoming anticipated release dates. As of Friday,, the Incubator currently has 20 total courses being developed (not yet in Beta). Several courses have been released since I shared my Duolingo Incubator post about course progress which had 22 courses being built. As the table below demonstrates, the company is making strides to include indigenous languages from across the globe. The UN announced that the International Decade of Indigenous Languages will last from 2022 to 2032, and hopefully, it will dispel misconception that Català is the same language as Castilian Spanish. United Nation’s website for the Year of Indigenous Languages in 2019 contained information about the 1st Congress of Indigenous Languages in the Iberian Peninsula which included Catalán, Euskera, etc. Given German’s generally strong understanding of English, given the USA’s desire to learn Spanish, and given Canada’s desire to learn French, a large demographic for “Katalonski”s exists containing current and future interest in Catalán language and culture - especially when considering tourism to Barcelona and Andorra.

This is in the first weather lesson in checkpoint two on my Android app. Even Duolingo’s German course for English speakers mentioned the Catalán island of Mallorca (pictured). Certainly not me shitting on the app as a whole. The case for Catalán is that it has ties and interests around the globe. But yeah a small criticism overall just something that seems odd to exclude to me personally. That ended up being longer than I meant to write but I'm on a smoke break so time to kill. I'm Irish so I'm more likely to go to Spain than South America and I imagine it's the same for a good few Europeans so a regional choice shouldn't be too difficult to implement considering how much they charge for plus. It just seems weird not to have a unit or two on the differences with the country the language is actually based on, like vosotros etc.

As I said though you target your main market and that's fair enough and as a free tool it hits the basics so it's a small criticism overall. If the audio was native speakers then sure but outside of the stories I've only ever heard that computerised voice so it doesn't really matter because it more often than not sounds a little inaccurate. Spelling I can understand but not the pronunciation part.
